Wish You Could Hear – Behind the Scenes
The Early Demo
“When the original early demo was released, back then in 2011, the concept was to create a short progressive minisuite with three distinctive sections”, Andres says. “Back then, we knew the real track would be a lot longer, but we weren’t considering it to be an orchestral / classical piece. Colin and I were going for a 70s sound: No orchestra, but lots of Mellotron and old synth sounds. In hindsight, it sounds pretty awful.”
We premiered the original demo on July 2011. We were meant to release the whole thing real soon but I got sidetracked with other duties and obligations: Rehearsals with Abaddyon for our next gig and a big Sound Design & Film Scoring job. So I had to leave the project aside for a while, and Colin went on a musical rampage and released countless hours of material with Colin Tench Project, Andy John Bradford’s Oceans 5 and Corvus Stone.”
The following is the earliest demo of ‘Wish You Could Hear‘. You can either stream it or download it for free. Neither option is recommended!
Back on track
“It took me almost a year and a half to get back on it”, Guazzelli says. “Actually, timing couldn’t have been any better. I guess the result wouldn’t be the same have I done it a year earlier. I gained so much experience and practice scoring films during that period, and I think it really shows on this piece. It really opened my mind in terms of orchestration, dramatic impact and dynamic build-ups”
“Colin had recorded his first album with Corvus Stone, along with bassist Petri Lindström, keyboardist Pasi Koivu, drummer Robert Wolff and vocalist Blake Carpenter. We definitely needed bass and drums, so Colin asked them to join us, and they were thrilled. They had never worked on a (somewhat) classical piece before, so it was pretty new and exciting”
Drummer Robert Wolff says “It is with great pleasure that I have met some wonderful musicians from Europe through Facebook. We enjoyed each other’s music, Colin’s projects with Bunchakeze and my past works with groups Micah and Raven. We, after talking, decided to work on current tracks together as a group. Colin introduced me to Petri, Pasi, and Blake and we created music for Corvus Stone. This was a perfect fit for a drummer of my style. Colin later introduced me to other fine artists. This is very rewarding to me as musician to hear new and innovating music from groups you might not hear in the US”
“Colin posted music that he was working on with a great artist in Argentina. When I heard the composition I was sold and wanted to be part of the project, if they would have me. They said yes. This was going to be a challenge for me as a drummer as the piece is out of the ordinary. It has 4 movements, each with its own identity, but keeps a beautiful theme throughout. I look forward to the completion of “Wish You Could Hear”. This is real “ear candy” for those looking for something exceptionally different”
